Contrary to popular belief, BJ is not always on tour or beyond the reach of artists on a tight budget. From his studio ‘The Batcave’, at Stately Wayne Manor, BJ works remotely with artists on a frequent basis overdubbing pedal steel and dobro. I PLAY FOR YOU
There are very few Pedal Steel Guitarists anywhere that can boast such a wealth of recording experience; and many of these are either retired or no longer with us.
The experience of playing on so many records has given me the ability to zero in on just what a song needs, either when recording with a group or when doing specific overdubs. Added to this is my in depth knowledge of both analogue and digital recording techniques.
I have constantly sought to expand the musical and sonic range of the Pedal Steel Guitar, and whether on third party artist sessions or on my own album projects, I have experience of: Country Music & Americana, Psychedelia, Electronica, Chamber Music, Classical, Cool Jazz, Free form experimental, Exotica, Ambient, Funk & Heavy Rock.
In production terms, The Pedal Steel offers a unique twist or hook to innovative production, as well as a stereotypical Country tinge when necessary.
The Online Overdub Service.
So are you curious about having me play on your track? You don't need a big budget to have the sound of a recording legend grace your latest musical offering. Just email an MP3 of the song you would like me to play on, and I will respond with an estimate of how much work may be involved and how much It will cost, with no obligation to you.
Remember, my studio is situated in my home, so I have no travel expenses, no studio costs and I can guarantee that the sound quality on my performances will be the best you have ever heard.
PROCESS
It's easy. Just send me a WAV or MP3 rough mix of the track or tracks via Wetransfer, Dropbox or email.
I will then do a take on your track and email you an MP3 of what it will sound like for your approval.
Once the direction is agreed, I will complete my interpretation with two or more takes to give you some choice at the comping stage. I will then send the files to you to re-import into your track. Job done.
I can extend the sonic range of my steel guitars by employing a number of devices including an E Bow,’Green Ringer’ ring modulator, Leslie simulator, sitar simulator and a MIDI interface that allows me to track any synth or sampler sound to the pitch bend of the Pedal Steel. If you are curious about the possibilities get in touch.
